Trigger Warning: Amazing Couple Ahead!!!

It’s almost winter and that means things are heating up between me and my dry skin. Not even top grade lotion can stop my us from absolutely taking things to the next level by introducing eczema in random patches on my hands…can you say STAN?! This relationship is GOALS. Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird better watch out because there’s a new power couple in town. Here’s a complete timeline of our relationship, straight from the source!

October 2, 2020: I noticed a couple tiny bumps on my left ring finger (um is this a sign or what?!?!!?)

I turned 30 on October 1 and it’s just like the fates to grant me with the beginnings of a minor skin condition. At this point I had no idea what would hit me. I mean yeah, I’ll be the first to admit it, I though it was a mosquito bite. LOL can you say blind sided?!?! But my love language is surprises so it was totally awesome what came next.

October 10, 2020: Hmm there are more bumps now, and in a couple other places like in between my fingers and stuff.

Alright, time to take this online, I thought. I googled symptoms and eczema was one of the first things that came up. I’m not proud of this, but I totally stalked it online for like an hour! I went on sites like ‘WebMD’ and ‘MayoClinic’ and ‘Hinge’ just to kind of make sure this thing was real.

October 11, 2020: It finally sinks in that eczema is not spelled “exema”

Just a little quirk about bae! Feels so good to learn these things early :)

October 15, 2020: There are more patches and they’re itchy, and I try lotion

Lotion just makes the area shiny, which is so cute because our relationship is still shiny and new. I really love that.

October 21, 2020: I decide to ask my doctor

Things are seriously moving fast…I don’t know if I like it but I also don’t really have a say. We are fully “dating” if I can say that so definitely time to get protection. I should have a dermatologist in New York, but unfortunately I still don’t. I try looking one up but it’s so confusing and after some searching I have a feeling my insurance covers absolutely nothing? I do find a couple dermatologists covered, but they are both pediatricians. And I am — like I said — 30.

October 22, 2020, 9:52am: I send photos and description through Teladoc

These are our first documented photos together. No labels yet, but that’s what I’m hoping to figure out. Sources close to me say they can’t see it from the pictures but I say they’re just being jealous.

October 22, 2020, 11:34am: The doctor gets back to me and says “looks like eczema” and prescribes an eczema cream.

OMG cute!!!!! Finally, a label and someone to validate what we’re going through. It’s been a long road already, and by that I mean really short, but good to feel like we’re making progress

October 22, 2020 3:23pm: I try to pick up the prescription at CVS, but it’s not ready. I leave because I’m running late for something

The guy goes, “just call next time.” Ok you’re just gonna flat out say that in front of my eczema? Bold.

October 23, 2020 10:40am: I call CVS who tells me the prescription is not covered and to tell my doctor to prescribe something else.

Man, everyone said relationships are complicated. I’m definitely learning that.

October 23, 2020, 10:47am: I tell the Teladoc doctor, he prescribes something else

Back on track!

October 23, 2020, 11:10am: I call CVS about the new prescription, they say this one is also not covered

Bro, what are we doing here? Feels like I’m doing all the heavy lifting and not really getting much in return. Starting to feel like this isn’t one of those fairy tale relationships.

October 23, 2020, 12:07pm: I give up and I pick up Aveeno eczema lotion

It doesn’t really work, but at least it was really expensive!

October 31, 2020: Spooky! My friend Mary Beth tells me to use aloe first before the lotion because it is probably caused by dry skin.

Ok grateful for the advice but kind of pissed because I thought this was exclusive. I bring it up with eczema and it’s like “yeah I am with other people” point blank and I’m like well……….that’s honestly fine with me because you’re so annoying and I never asked for this relationship in the first place

November 3, 2020: Eczema and I are holding hands now (there are spots on my palms)

WTF?

November 9, 2020: We got married

This is insane! My friend in college once told me I was marriage material predicted one day I would just find someone and get married and while I wrote that in my journal and re-read it every night, I never thought it would look like this. Yeah this moved fast I know but my whole family was there even the dog. The dog officiated and was the ring bearer and my best man. This is so cool and also so awful because I really just wanted the eczema on my hands gone but we said til death do us part and that’s so dark ?

November 12, 2020 (today): Looking up how to divorce eczema

There’s so much legalese in these documents it’s hard to follow. If someone knows anything about nuptials and stuff please comment. Like I said my insurance is not good so also if you know a dermatologist who takes HealthFirst please let me know!
